May 2021: Tips, eNews & More!

The relatively warmer days have arrived, just in time to celebrate all the wonderful occasions this month, such as, Mother's Day, Victoria Day, Asian Heritage Month, and Eid. For many of us, cooking a meal can be a tiresome task. Luckily, this month we have a recipe that you can create in as little as 15 minutes, that will stay good in the fridge for up to 5 days! It is a vegetarian dish that is healthy and perfect for all occasions! Enjoy this meal during your lunch hours, as a side dish, or over a video call with friends and family.

A warm welcome to Dr. Jiwa as he is the newest doctor, to join the dental team.

We are happy to announce that the DNDC staff recently completed their yearly CPR training and recertification course.

Did you know that there is a baby girl boom going on at DNDC! Big congratulations to Dr. Nguyen and her family this month. She recently welcomed a second little girl, Avery, into their family! Congratulations goes out to Plamena, our hygienist. She has been blessed with a sweet baby girl named Stephania. Daniela, our dental assistant, is now a momma to a beautiful girl named Eliana! Congratulations to all these lovely ladies and their families, from all the DNDC staff. We miss you all and can't wait to see you again.

Stay safe and have a healthy month,

The Team at DNDC

The Connection Between Poor Oral Hygiene and Severity of COVID-19

An international study led by researchers at McGill University has discovered that those with poor dental hygiene tend to experience more severe COVID-19 symptoms. By looking at digital medical and dental records of over 500 patients with COVID-19, they discovered that patients who showed signs of gum disease, or periodontitis, were 3.5 times more likely to be admitted to the intensive care unit, 4.5 times more likely to require a ventilator, and 8.8 times more likely to die from COVID-19. Oral bacteria can be inhaled into the respiratory tract, which can then lead to worsening conditions such as pneumonia or sepsis. Their research shows that good oral health is vital to the prevention and management of COVID-19 complications.
